Oil Rig Stronghold Guide

Both Oil Rig variants — the original Sakurajima rig (Lv 50-55) and the Feybreak Rayne Syndicate Platform (Lv 60). Verified locations, real enemies, real drop rates, and the recommended endgame farming loop.

Oil Rig Stronghold Guide

Two Oil Rigs exist in Palworld. They look similar, drop similar-looking schematics, and confuse a lot of guides — so let's start by separating them.

The two rigs

Neither rig has a fast-travel point. Both require a flying or swimming mount to reach.

The Sakurajima rig is the entry-level grind. The Rayne Syndicate Platform is the current endgame farm — that's where the meta-defining Feybreak weapon schematics drop.

Sakurajima Oil Rig (Lv 50-55)

Use this rig if you're still gearing up. Drops crude oil, gold, ammo, and a chance at Old World legendary schematics from the big chest. Resource-efficient but no Feybreak weapons.

Approach

  • Flying mount (Jetragon, Faleris, etc.) recommended. Bring a swimming Pal as backup since lasers can knock you out of the sky.
  • The rig defends with turrets and laser cannons. Hostile humans patrol with assault rifles, rocket launchers, and missile launchers.

Loot

The big chest's location is randomized per session. Walk the rig once to find it. Common drops include:

  • Crude Oil (large stack)
  • Ancient Civilization Parts
  • Schematics for late-game weapons — Rocket Launcher, Assault Rifle, Laser Rifle, etc., at varying rarities

Chests respawn roughly hourly.

Loadout

  • Armor: Legendary Heat or Cold Resistant Pal Metal Armor (same stats — pick based on climate)
  • Weapon: Legendary Rocket Launcher
  • Pal: Jetragon for mobility

Rayne Syndicate Platform (Lv 60 — Feybreak)

This is the rig that matters for endgame. 22 small chests + 1 big chest (the big chest has 5 possible spawn locations, randomized per session). The big chest is gated by the Attack Chopper boss fight.

You can run it once every 30 minutes — the timer starts after you've looted every chest.

Drop rates (Big Chest, Feybreak weapons)

Each tier of each weapon has its own drop chance. Tier 4 schematics are deeply rare:

WeaponTier 2Tier 3Tier 4 (Legendary)
Multi Guided Missile Launcher14.75%9.00%1.25%
Advanced Bow14.75%9.00%1.25%
Laser Gatling Gun14.75%9.00%1.25%
Plasma Cannon14.75%9.00%1.25%

Average runs per Tier-4 Feybreak schematic: ~80 runs. That drops to ~32 if you use the Drafting Table (added in v0.5.0) to merge 5× Tier 3 schematics.

Drop rates (Small Chests, Hexolite armor)

Each of the 22 small chests has independent rolls. Per-chest rates are tiny but compound across all 22:

SchematicTier 1Tier 4
Hexolite Helmet3.89%0.03%
Hexolite Armor3.89%0.03%
Heat / Cold Resistant Hexolite Armor2.34%0.02%
Lightweight Hexolite Armor1.56%0.01%

Average runs to a Tier-4 Hexolite Armor without the Drafting Table: ~146 runs.

The Attack Chopper

The big chest is locked until you kill the Attack Chopper. Stats:

  • HP: ~1.3 million
  • Attacks: Machine Gun (continuous), Homing Missiles, Bombing Run
  • XP bonus: 46× normal

Two viable strategies:

  1. Cover + Multi Guided Missile Launcher — peek out of cover, fire homing missiles around a pillar, rinse.
  2. Lifesteal build — Felbat or Lovander partner skill (lifesteal applies to player). With splash damage from a Rocket Launcher or Plasma Cannon, you can heal to full on each shot.

The Tower at Big Chest Location E is the most reliable arena — the chopper's bullets get blocked by the pillar.

PalRoleWhy?
FelbatLifesteal sourcePartner skill gives lifesteal to both Pal and player — required for the lifesteal Chopper strategy.
GaleclawMobilityGrapple-glide between platforms. Critical for the 22-chest loot route.
Gobfin × 2-3Damage buffEach Gobfin with Vanguard + Stronghold Strategist passives stacks +30% attack, +10% defense for the player.

(See the Tier List for alternatives; these specific picks are because of partner skills, not raw stats.)

Weapons:

  • 2× Grappling Guns (one as primary mobility, one as backup)
  • Rocket Launcher — for stunning groups of NPCs
  • Multi Guided Missile Launcher OR Plasma Cannon — for the Chopper

Accessories:

  • Attack Pendant +2
  • Attack Pendant +1
  • Triple Jump Boots
  • Defense Pendant +2
  • Climate Undershirt (swap in on approach — cold zone near the rig)

Food buff: Mammorest Curry (+25% attack). Mandatory; it's free DPS.

Enemies you'll fight

The rig is patrolled by 11 distinct human archetypes plus 6 Pal types. The dangerous ones:

EnemyWhy it's a threat
Crushersx20 HP and x18 damage. Immune to explosive stuns. Guard the big chest.
Shotgun NPCx40 damage — they one-shot you when your shield is down. Watch flanks.
Laser Rifle NPCAccurate consistent damage. Stacks of them shred shields fast. Priority kills.
Electric Crossbow NPCStun effect. Getting stunned in front of a Laser Rifle is the #1 cause of death on the rig.
Knocklem (Pal)126 base HP and x20.83 health bonus. Immune to Rocket Launcher stuns. Skip rather than fight.

The farming loop

  1. Glide or fly in with altitude so you can spot the big chest from far away.
  2. Go straight to the big chest. Clear surrounding NPCs first.
  3. Summon the Chopper by interacting with the big chest. Position matters — see the per-location notes below.
  4. Defeat the Chopper. Each time you send out a Pal, the Chopper focuses it until you deal damage.
  5. Grapple + Galeclaw around the rig looting all 22 small chests.
  6. Homeward Thundercloud back to base when done.

Per-location strategy for the big chest spawn:

  • A (F1): Wait for the big NPC wave before summoning. Manageable.
  • B (SL): Sometimes you can kill the Chopper before the wave arrives.
  • C (SL): Don't fight here — grapple to Location E and fight at the tower.
  • D (SL): Safe to fight; no NPCs can climb up.
  • E (F1): Tower fighting platforms work great; the wave can arrive but you're elevated.

Notes

  • Mods exist that buff Oil Rig legendary drop rates. The Vanilla drop rates above assume an unmodded game.
  • The Anti-Air Missile Defense can be permanently disabled. The Lasers respawn after being disabled.
  • Felbat will sometimes teleport to the player and mid-fight a Crusher. Park them on a high roof during NPC clears.

Which rig to farm

  • Lv 50-55, gearing up: Sakurajima Oil Rig. The Old World schematics it drops feed into the Endgame Checklist progression.
  • Lv 60, hunting Legendary weapons: Rayne Syndicate Platform. Every meta DPS player runs this; the Plasma Cannon and Multi Guided Missile Launcher trivialize most raid bosses including Bellanoir Libero Ultra.
  • You've already finished both: consider the Tides of Terraria content for fresh endgame.
