How to Reach the World Tree in Palworld 1.0
The World Tree is Palworld 1.0's endgame region — a massive floating biome on a southeastern island, gated behind the game's toughest unlock questline. Inside are legendary-tier Pals, the new Paloxite resource, a radiation biome, and the final boss fight of the entire story.
This guide covers everything you need: the prerequisites, the Panthalus questline that opens the region, and a walkthrough of what waits inside. Verified against post-launch coverage from GameRant, Sportskeeda, Game8, and BisectHosting (sources at the bottom).
Quick prerequisites checklist
Before you can even start the World Tree unlock quest, you need:
- All 9 Tower Bosses defeated — every tower across Palpagos, Feybreak, and Sunreach
- Realistic level 70+ — the gatekeeper boss is Level 70 and enemies inside push toward the new Level 80 cap
- A capable combat team — one full team of 5 Pals with good passives, not just leveled-up base workers
- Gas Mask helmet crafted — part of the region is a radiation biome that will drain your health without it
If you're not at Level 70 yet with all towers cleared, this guide will still make sense — just know the actual work is getting yourself to the starting line.
Step 1 — Find the quest-giver on the Deserted Islet
Head to the Deserted Islet at coordinates (-814, -824) — a small island off the map's northwest area. There's a lone NPC in a large hat and backpack. Talking to them starts the Panthalus main quest and rewards you with the Echoing Flute schematic.
This is the one and only trigger for the World Tree unlock. If you haven't talked to this NPC, none of the subsequent steps are available.
Step 2 — Collect four Ancient Bones
Once the quest starts, four golden quest markers appear on your map. Each one marks an Ancient Whale skeleton — massive, unmissable when you get close. Interact with each to claim one Ancient Bone.
The four skeleton locations span the map, so plan to fast-travel between them. This is a good chance to top up any levels or resources you're short on before the boss fight.
Step 3 — Craft the Echoing Flute
Return to your base (or any workbench) and craft the Echoing Flute using your four Ancient Bones plus the standard crafting materials from the schematic. This is the summoning item for the boss.
Step 4 — Catch Panthalus (do NOT defeat)
Head back to the Deserted Islet and use the Echoing Flute. Panthalus — a Level 70 Water-type with an enormous HP pool — will appear.
Critical: You must capture Panthalus with a Pal Sphere, not defeat it. If Panthalus is killed outright without being caught, the quest cannot continue and you'll need to reset the fight. This is Palworld's toughest unlock check by design — bring your best Ultra or Legendary Spheres.
Panthalus is a slow-moving whale-type boss with wide AoE water attacks. A high-DPS Electric or Grass team wins the type matchup, but the fight length matters more than the counter — you need Panthalus alive long enough to whittle its HP into the capture window without accidentally one-shotting the last sliver.
Step 5 — Use the World Tree Terminal
Fast-travel to the Base of the World Tree (coordinates -838, 689). Interact with the locked Terminal at the tree's base — the barrier drops instantly and the whole region opens up.
You're in.
What's inside the World Tree
The World Tree is a vertically layered biome — the higher you climb the tree, the harder the encounters get. Key features:
- Radiation zone: requires the Gas Mask helmet to survive. Don't skip this — it's not optional gear.
- Paloxite ore, Mythical Wood, and Pal Metal Ore: the new endgame crafting materials. But there's a twist —
- World Tree nodes shatter on contact unless you either apply World Tree Holy Water before harvesting or keep a Pal with the Rainbow (Legendary) passive in your party. The Rainbow aura keeps the nodes intact so you can mine them normally.
- Legendary-tier Pals roam the region. These are the strongest catchable Pals in the game — most are locked to the World Tree biome.
- New passive skills appear on wild Pals here that don't exist anywhere else on the map.
The Sealed Calamity — the final boss questline
Inside the World Tree, the main story quest is The Sealed Calamity. It's structured as:
- Three Level 78 guardian bosses scattered around the tree. Each drops a piece needed to progress.
- Eight Key Spheres to collect (in addition to the guardian drops) to unlock the sealed door in the western tower.
- The final boss fight: Zenara & Astralym — a Level 80 duo with roughly 420,000 HP, and they are completely typeless (no elemental weakness to exploit).
Beating Zenara & Astralym
Since there's no type counter, the fight is a pure gear and skill check. What the community coverage converges on:
- Level to the 80 cap first. Your Pals cannot exceed your own level, so being sub-cap means you're fighting with weakened teammates.
- Full Ancient Series armor + heavy shield. The shield absorbs most of the homing projectile damage.
- Paloxite energy weapons carry the damage check — the Drone Launcher, Plasma Rifle, and Beam Launcher are the top-tier options.
- Stay mounted on a flying Pal. Astralym moves constantly across the arena and the AoE attacks are dense; flight keeps you in range while dodging.
- Break the wing charge every time. When the center charge starts, focus the wings and leg orbs immediately — a full charge can one-shot you.
- Below ~50% HP the fight shifts into overlapping laser grids. Flight-mount traversal makes threading them survivable.
- Below ~30,000 HP Astralym starts a self-destruct sequence with violent energy tornadoes around its body. You have about 20 seconds to finish the fight — empty every heavy weapon and every off-cooldown Pal skill.
Note: Astralym cannot be caught, only registered in your Paldeck as a defeated legendary. This is deliberate — the final boss isn't meant to become a party member.
What you actually get for it
Clearing the World Tree gives you:
- Access to legendary Pals that don't spawn anywhere else
- Paloxite ore for the top-tier weapon and armor tier
- Mythical Wood and Pal Metal Ore for high-end building
- New passive skills exclusive to the region
- The full story completion — you've finished Palworld 1.0's main narrative
For a group of returning early-access players, the World Tree is the single most substantial new region added in the entire 1.0 update. Plan for a multi-session run rather than a single evening — the questline alone can eat 4–6 hours if you're not already at cap.
