Palworld Wildlife Sanctuaries — Complete 1.0 Guide (All 3 Locations)
Every Wildlife Sanctuary in Palworld 1.0 — coordinates, Legendaries per sanctuary (Shadowbeak, Grizzbolt, Lyleen, Frostallion Noct, Blazamut), security drone mechanics, wanted status escape strategy, and the 1.0 same-species breeding change.

Wildlife Sanctuaries are Palworld's restricted-access Legendary spawn zones. Sneak in past security drones, catch rare pals you can't find anywhere else, get out before your Wanted status escalates. Three sanctuaries exist in the base map, each with different Legendary residents and difficulty tiers.
This guide covers all three sanctuaries with verified coordinates, the pals inside each, universal raid mechanics, and the 1.0 breeding change that affects several sanctuary pals.
What sanctuaries are (and why you're going)
Wildlife Sanctuaries are off-limits protected zones patrolled by security drones. Entering makes you a trespasser — the game's crime system activates, and stronger pursuers spawn to hunt you until you escape.
Why go anyway: sanctuaries contain Legendary and near-Legendary pals you cannot find in the overworld — including Shadowbeak, Grizzbolt, Lyleen, Astegon, and Frostallion Noct. If you're building an endgame combat squad or a Meta-tier base worker crew, sanctuary raids are the only path.
Also new in 1.0: sanctuary drones now drop Ancient loot materials on defeat, though the drops are RNG and the drones deal heavy damage — most raiders skip them entirely and just sprint past.
Universal sanctuary mechanics
Getting in
- No fast-travel points exist inside sanctuaries. You have to fly, swim, or glide in from the outside.
- Flying mount recommended — Jetragon, Faleris, Ragnahawk, or any Legendary flyer. Ground movement makes stealth much harder because you can't reposition vertically to break line of sight.
The security system
Security drones sweep every sanctuary with bright red detection beams — visible cones you can literally see on the ground. If a beam catches you, the game flags you for trespassing and the crime system activates.
Once flagged:
- Wanted status climbs as more drones detect you
- Pursuers spawn continuously — the higher your Wanted level, the stronger the enemies
- PIDF security forces may eventually spawn in addition to drones
Escaping when things go wrong
Two proven methods:
-
Break line of sight and wait. Sprint behind rock formations, cliffs, or trees. Once drones lose you, wait a moment for their alert state to reset. Works if you're mid-sanctuary and the situation is recoverable.
-
Fly up and leave. The single most reliable method — mount your flying pal, gain vertical altitude, exit the sanctuary boundary entirely. Wanted status clears once you're outside and undetected.
Why NOT to fight drones
Drones deal heavy damage and drop nothing worth farming (except the RNG Ancient materials mentioned above, which are usually not worth the ammo and armor durability cost). Stealth catch + retreat is the meta. Combat drones are the exception, not the rule.
Sphere strategy
Sanctuary Legendaries are Alpha-difficulty catches with 0.5-0.7× capture multipliers — even at critical HP, standard Ultra Spheres have low catch rates. Bring Legendary Spheres or the highest tier you have. Budget 8-15 Legendary Spheres per target if you want to reliably land the catch on the first successful weaken.
For a full capture chance breakdown with the six real sphere tiers, use the Capture Chance Helper — the "Legendary" difficulty preset is calibrated for sanctuary pals.
Sanctuary No. 1 — Sea Breeze Archipelago (coords 56, -670)
Location: directly east of the Sea Breeze Archipelago Castaway Beach fast travel point, in the southern part of the map.
Pal levels: 20-30
Difficulty: entry-level. This is where most players do their first sanctuary raid — the lower-level enemies mean fewer stealth headaches and easier fallback if you're spotted.
Notable pals inside:
- Grizzbolt — the Electric-type Legendary from the Zoe & Grizzbolt tower boss. This is the only natural spawn of Grizzbolt in the game post-1.0, and it's here.
- Kingpaca — Handiwork + Transporting worker
- Various mid-tier Dark and Ground pals
Raid tips: because pals are only Level 20-30, you can enter this sanctuary well before you're ready for the harder ones. Grizzbolt is genuinely useful early — a viable Electric-type carry that you'd otherwise have to breed same-species (see the 1.0 change below).
Sanctuary No. 2 — North of Volcano (coords -660, -115)
Location: north of the volcanic biome, western part of the map.
Pal levels: 35-50
Difficulty: mid-game. The pals are stronger than Sanctuary 1, and the terrain is more open — fewer natural rock formations to break line of sight against drones.
Notable pals inside:
- Astegon — Dark-type Legendary boss. Level 7 Mining suitability makes it a top-tier base worker as well as a combat pal. Dual-purpose Legendary is rare.
- Various late-30s to 50s pals
Raid tips: bring a Dragon-type carry — Astegon is Dark, and Dark takes super-effective damage from Dragon. Whittle to critical HP with Dragon attacks, then swap to Legendary Spheres. Bring a Gas Mask if you plan to explore the surrounding volcanic zone.
Sanctuary No. 3 — Northeast Desert Edge (coords 660, 633)
Location: just west of the desert biome, at the northeastern edge of the map.
Pal levels: 40-45 for standard pals, up to Level 65 for the boss
Difficulty: endgame. This is the toughest sanctuary. Pals are stronger, the terrain forces more risky movement, and the roster includes multiple Legendaries.
Notable pals inside:
- Frostallion Noct — Dark variant of Frostallion, main boss at Level 65. Elite flying combat pal.
- Shadowbeak — Dark Legendary, one of the most sought-after combat pals. Included in most Dark-team compositions.
- Blazamut — Fire Legendary. Also found in the Scorching Mineshaft, but Sanctuary 3 spawn is more reliable.
- Lyleen — Grass Legendary from the Lily & Lyleen tower fight. Same "only natural spawn" logic as Grizzbolt.
- Incineram Noct — Dark variant of Incineram, high base attack
- Fenglope, Bushi — additional mid-tier combat pals
Raid tips: this is the sanctuary where preparation matters most. Full Legendary Sphere stock (15+ recommended), Level 50+ personal level, flying mount ready to bail. Consider catching Shadowbeak first — you'll want it for Dark-team compositions listed on the Best Dark Pals ranking. If you can, do multiple runs to grab Shadowbeak + Blazamut + Lyleen in sequence rather than a single overloaded trip.
1.0 breeding change — same-species only for tower boss pals
This is a real gap in most existing pal guides you'll read online. Palworld 1.0 changed how you can breed several sanctuary and tower boss pals:
Tower boss pals now ONLY breed same-species:
- Shadowbeak + Shadowbeak = Shadowbeak
- Grizzbolt + Grizzbolt = Grizzbolt
- Lyleen + Lyleen = Lyleen
Previously (pre-1.0), you could breed these from various parent combinations. Post-1.0, the only way to get more is:
- Catch multiple wild ones from their sanctuary spawns
- Breed same-species to grind for passives
Same pattern as Necromus + Necromus and Jetragon + Jetragon — the game consolidated Legendaries into a "catch, then breed with itself" workflow. See the Necromus Army Build for the full breeding-for-passives strategy applied to this constraint.
Overworld Legendaries (not in sanctuaries — for reference)
Some Legendaries live in the open world, not sanctuaries. Worth knowing so you're not searching sanctuaries for them:
- Jetragon — Mount Obsidian, around (-790, -320). Dragon Legendary, fastest mount in the game.
- Frostallion — Astral Mountains frozen lake (-357, 508). Ice Legendary.
- Necromus + Paladius — Desiccated Desert, around (446, 680). Dark and Neutral Legendary duo. See the Necromus catch strategy — including the night-time trick to fight Necromus solo while Paladius sleeps.
- Panthalus — World Tree unlock quest. Special mechanic (guaranteed 1-HP catch). Full guide: How to Catch Panthalus.
- Blazamut — Scorching Mineshaft (also Sanctuary 3, which is easier).
Which sanctuary to raid first?
Depends on what you're building:
- Fresh mid-game player wanting a strong Electric pal: Sanctuary 1 for Grizzbolt. Levels are manageable and Grizzbolt is genuinely powerful.
- Building a base with high-Mining specialist: Sanctuary 2 for Astegon. Dual combat + Level 7 Mining is rare.
- Committed to endgame Dark team: Sanctuary 3 for Shadowbeak + Blazamut + Lyleen. Do this only when you're confident with stealth mechanics.
- First-time sanctuary raider learning stealth: Sanctuary 1 — lower stakes, low-level pals, easier recovery if spotted.
Sanctuary raid checklist
Before your first serious run:
- ✅ Flying mount in party (Ragnahawk minimum, Jetragon ideal)
- ✅ 8-15 Legendary Spheres for target pal
- ✅ Highest-DPS ranged weapon you own (Rocket Launcher, Beam Launcher, Plasma Rifle)
- ✅ Full HP + healing consumables
- ✅ Ammo reserves in case you get spotted and need to escape-fight
- ✅ Know your escape route — which direction leads back out of the sanctuary boundary?
