Palworld v1.0.4 — New Sub-Missions, Broken Passives Fixed, and Fishing Overhaul (September 7, 2026)

Palworld v1.0.4 (build 1.102.642) ships two new sub-missions, fixes the broken Idiosyncratic and Lucky-defense passives, unbricks the Panthalus / World Tree Guardian bug, makes fishing friendlier, and lifts the PC FPS cap to 120. Full breakdown.

Last updated: 2026-09-07

Released September 7, 2026 on Steam and consoles. On console this appears as build 1.102.642. Another substantial patch on Pocketpair's roughly-monthly cadence — not the balance overhaul that v1.0.3 was, but it does drop two new sub-missions, fix two passive skills that had been silently broken since launch, and unbrick a Main Mission progression bug that stranded players who fought Panthalus too early.

The stuff that actually matters

Two new sub-missions added:

  • "Beyond Dimensions" — accepted from an NPC at Fisherman's Point in Mount Obsidian. First entry in a two-part chain.
  • "From the Far Side of the Moon" — unlocks after completing Beyond Dimensions. Second half of the chain.

Both are Sub Missions, not Main Mission gates, so you can safely ignore them if you're mid-story. Names and NPC location point at an atmospheric / lore-focused arc (moon/dimension theming), potentially linked to Lunaris Effigies (which got a homing enhancement adjustment in this same patch). Full quest walkthroughs will follow once community consensus on the steps settles — check back here for links.

Two passives that were silently broken since launch are now fixed:

  • Lucky — the defense bonus portion of Lucky was not activating. The attack/work-speed portion worked; defense didn't. Every "Lucky as a defensive passive" recommendation in every Palworld guide (ours included) was technically wrong for the last two months. Fixed now.
  • Idiosyncratic — the mutation passive was not activating correctly at all. Anyone breeding for it as a defensive layer was getting nothing. Fixed now.

If you'd bred any of your combat or defender Pals with Lucky or Idiosyncratic and thought "those passives don't feel like they're doing anything" — they weren't. They are now. Re-evaluate your defender line-ups; Pals with these passives just got meaningfully stronger.

Panthalus / World Tree Guardian progression fix:

An issue where the World Tree Guardian wouldn't appear later in the Main Mission if you defeated Panthalus before progressing the Main Mission is now fixed. This bricked some players' campaigns — you'd guaranteed-catch Panthalus as a legendary showpiece, then find the story couldn't proceed. Not obvious without a fresh save. Now resolved.

Echoing Flute is now droppable from inventory. Previously locked as a key item after crafting. Small QoL but notable if you crafted extra Flutes for co-op friends and were stuck with them.

Two Pal Critic breeding targets changed:

  • Sakurajima Pal Critic: Selyne → Dogen
  • Sunreach Pal Critic: Bastigor → Faleris Aqua

If you were breeding for either old target for the Critic reward, your breeding chain is now for the wrong Pal. Redirect via the Breeding Pathfinder.

Fishing overhaul

Fishing got significant attention this patch — the mechanic has always been fiddly, and Pocketpair took a real pass at making it friendlier:

  • Fishing difficulty adjusted in Sunreach and the World Tree area (both regions previously punishing)
  • Bait success amounts adjusted — different baits now give different reward volumes; worth experimenting again
  • Fishing minigame guides — new on-screen control guides, warning displays, and recommended equipment displays during fishing
  • New World Setting: "Fish Behavior During Fishing Minigames" — server admins and single-player hosts can now tune fish behavior for their group

If you'd bounced off fishing at launch because the minigame felt impenetrable, this is your invitation to try again. The Large Fishing Pond in particular pairs well with the v1.0.3 Holy Water buffs since Holy Water now drops from Large Fishing Pond fishing.

Balance and pacing tweaks worth knowing

  • Ancient Bark now requires Work Suitability Lv. 1 to gather (was higher previously). Big early-game QoL — the resource was gated behind unlocking a specific worker tier
  • Summoned Pals and Base Pals prioritize higher-damage skills — your combat Pals should be slightly more effective in autonomous fights
  • Base Pals using charging-type skills — behavior adjusted (details unspecified, likely reduces animation-lock issues)
  • Lapure swim speed adjusted
  • Lunaris Effigies homing enhancement adjusted (nerfed or buffed — Pocketpair didn't specify direction)
  • Power Bomb minimum use distance increased — Pals using Power Bomb (Hartalis among others) should stop doing unnatural backsteps before using it
  • Core Eject damage adjusted for the Core Eject Shotgun

Quality-of-life changes that matter

  • PC default FPS cap changed to 120 (was 60). If you've been running Palworld locked at 60 without touching settings, this is a free performance upgrade
  • Palpedia name search added — finally. Searching by name in the Palpedia instead of scrolling
  • Work Suitability explanations added to the Pal status UI and Palpedia — better in-game info matching what our Best Pal for... pages have been documenting
  • Version mismatch errors now show the version of the connection target — hugely helpful for dedicated server admins troubleshooting client version issues
  • Campfires no longer catch player, summoned Pals, or Base Pals on fire from contact — pure comfort improvement, no more accidentally burning to death while cooking
  • PS5 chat via Radial Menu now works
  • Building restrictions added around Field Boss Suzaku (desert), the desert Main Mission cave, and some Sakurajima mission locations — prevents players cheesing bosses by walling them in
  • Per-player building limit added as server setting — server admins running large communities can now cap builds per player to prevent hoarders

Performance improvements

  • Xbox One memory usage reduced — the aging platform gets a small break
  • PS5 co-op memory usage reduced
  • World Tree area rendering load reduced — the region was notably laggy on some hardware; this is a real improvement
  • Foliage and effect playback load reduced across the board
  • Reduced stuttering when some passive skills activate

Full bug fix list (highlights)

The patch fixes 40+ specific bugs. The ones most likely to affect your gameplay:

Crashes:

  • Server crash when sorting Pals — fixed
  • Crash when trying to display a long mission description — fixed
  • Crash during animation after a fishing spot disappeared — fixed

Multiplayer:

  • Co-op joining players might not correctly join the host's guild — fixed
  • Dedicated server crafting display could remain on screen — fixed
  • PS5/Xbox on-screen keyboard might not appear when opening chat from Radial Menu — fixed

Progression:

  • Main Mission "Crafting an Axe and a Pickaxe" wouldn't progress if you already had one before accepting — fixed
  • Panthalus / World Tree Guardian bug (see above) — fixed

Pals + skills:

  • Wild Pals in the World Tree area becoming unable to move (PS5/Xbox) — fixed
  • Killamari Primo Partner Skill Lv 2 and Lv 3 effects were reversed — fixed
  • Mutated Eggs from Grintale's passive didn't reflect mutated stats — fixed
  • Mercy Hit passive not applied while riding — fixed
  • Radiant Gems dropped in World Tree could have mismatched or biased elements — fixed
  • Warning indicators could fail to appear during World Tree boss attacks — fixed
  • Raid Boss battles: boss could fail to temporarily stop moving after damage, or fail to summon smaller Pals — fixed
  • Paladius Partner Skill could summon an Alpha Necromus at normal size — fixed (this was being exploited for Necromus army shortcuts)

UI:

  • Selling multiple items at a shop could calculate the sale amount incorrectly — fixed
  • HUD ammo count could remain at 0 after reloading — fixed
  • Item counts could fail to update correctly when moving items — fixed

Meta shift — what actually changes

  • Base Defense Guide — Idiosyncratic and Lucky-as-defensive-passive now function. Both were dead weight before this patch. If you'd built defender Pals around either, they just got significantly better. See the updated passive callout on that guide.
  • Passive Skills — same story. The passives page rankings around Lucky and Idiosyncratic were technically off; both now function as advertised.
  • Meta Picks — no S-tier shifts, but the defender-passive discussion needs a footnote.
  • Panthalus Catch Guide — the Echoing Flute + Guardian bug fix both affect the recommended catch order.
  • Tier List and Best Pal by Element — unchanged; no Pal stat rebalances this patch.
  • Necromus Army — the Paladius normal-size Alpha Necromus bug is patched; if your build relied on it, adjust.
  1. Update the game — Steam auto-patches, console rollout was same-day.
  2. Re-evaluate any defender Pals with Lucky or Idiosyncratic — those passives were doing nothing until now.
  3. If you'd been stuck on the World Tree Guardian, re-load your save — the progression should now unblock.
  4. Give fishing another try if you'd bounced off it — the minigame is genuinely friendlier now, and it's a Holy Water farm route.
  5. Server admins: check the new per-player building limit setting if you've had issues with hoarders on your server. Configure it in PalWorldSettings.ini.
  6. PC players: your default FPS cap just went from 60 to 120. If you haven't touched graphics settings, you're now running at 2x framerate for free.
